UNEARTHING STORIES FROM THE CORE

Acts of Disappearance (Gilgit-Baltistan GB)

2023

a song of survival & resilience
healing, new beginnings
rising & transcending
even as we grieve

“come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed” by Lucille Clifton

Ephemeral, site-specific installations of locally sourced, hand embroidered Hunza caps

where the eagles nested
and rocks eroded
where parts of our selves
erased and disappeared
out of our reach
leaving fragments behind
scattered inside, buried deep
yearning to be whole again
for the earth to heal us
and root us or lift us again

The mobility of these ephemeral installations reflect our stories, interconnected across cultures, place, and time. An honoring of the earth as a source of our sustenance: spiritual, material, embodied. An offering; a song of survival, rising, and becoming.

This project is made possible with funding support from The Tulsa Artist Fellowship, and Creative Projects Grant funding from the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.
